BOARC Crews Win at Worcester

RACE REPORT FROM ANDY TUBB

Having struggled with transport from the start, it appeared we were doomed when Monkton's new truck broke down on the M4 before Bristol. Luckily a second vehicle was on hand to take over and the convoy proceeded still arriving almost on time.

Having been out of the double for about 10 days (our longest break in over 3 months!), we were a little nervous as we boated at Worcester but it was a beautiful day with perfect conditions and we had a good row to the start.
We got away well falling into a nice rhythm pretty quickly. We rowed through a women's 4 and then past our IM2 competition. Further down the course we rowed through a men's 4 and almost caught another before the finish. We won our class beating our opposition by 1.10 minutes and managed to finish a respectable 9th overall after starting 23rd with only quads and a J18 4- ahead of us.
A good days rowing... roll on the pairs head!!
Also thanks to everyone who offered to help us get the double to Monkton, Nick Ware was the winning volunteer .

REPORT FROM DAVID LAWRENCE
There may have been a slight delay in getting the boats to Worcester – it is possible that the new towing vehicle suffered electrical problems on the M4 - after having arrived from Glasgow the previous day. Even so ……… whilst the vehicle may not have made the trip, everyone else did along with boats.
BOA Members performances
BOA Crew (Tubb) won the IM2 pairs with a very credible performance – they looked competent and composed coming into the finish.
Sculling for Monkton - Alex Leflaive Manley came 4th in the J16 Sculls in the morning session and then was only pipped at the post by one of his own team mates in the Novice Sculls in the afternoon. Alex admitted to not attacking the afternoon session with quite the same energy as that of the morning but clearly all those hours sculling at BoA have set him in good stead for the autumn head season.
After the disappointment of the summer BOA sculler Mike Lawrence trained with Leander on Saturday and achieved 9th out of 32 in their senior men’s 9k time trial in the first morning session. Having sculled a total of 30k on the Saturday Mike sculled with Monkton at Worcester on Sunday – the Quad won IM2 division with Mike in the bow in the morning session. He then completed the afternoons session with the fastest sculling time overall winning IM2 in conditions that were over 1 minute slower than those of the morning - due to an increasing head wind.
