Monkton Bluefriars Head Race report - Written by Andy Taylor.
The Head race for Monkton Bluefriars is held from Avon County Rowing Club where the course is split into 2 events. The Longer Course of approximately 3.5KM and a Shorter Course for Juniors up to and including J14 crews. The river Avon is fairly wide down the course allowing overtaking if required.
The weather although not raining was dull with small periods of sun shine and whilst we all anticipated it to be cold it was not at all. A head wind blew down the course with varying strength ,blustery in the first division, stronger in the second, and had eased by the third division. On occasion Narrow boats decided to navigate the course and subsequently caused some long delays in starting divisions.
BOARC had 13 entries in all but 2 entries were unable to row and were withdrawn, all in all a very healthy turnout.
In all BOARC HAD 4 WINS from the entry as follows :
1) Pete Holland ("Big Pete") who you may have seen around the club rowing in the early evenings had a very commendable win in the Mas B 1 x against some stiff opposition 31 secs against the closest Wiltshire Scullers opposition
2) Gavin Langford won the Masters A Novice 1 x in a time of 17.14.8
3) Our Junior Crews excelled themselves again with a first place for our Junior Quad J13 4 x +. over the short course in 07.05.9 beating a crew from Dragon School. The boys crew were Alexander Linham, Alexander Taylor , Miles Taylor, and Jacob Metz coxed by Lily Nicolson. Well done to all.
4) An excellent result also from Tamsin Brewer (WJ14) not only taking first in her race but the fastest single overall in J14 well done Tamsin.
Well done to all who raced winners and runners up I hope you all enjoyed the days racing.
All the results can be viewed from Monkton Bluefriars website using the BOA crew results link.
