Captains Report September 2014
September is generally a little slow in the Rowing sessions it marks the change from Regatta side by side rowing to the longer timed Winter Head Races.
Isis Head Race.
Our first Head race of the session was at Oxford and this particular head race is a little shorter than many at 1.8km which then forms a good transition between Regatta and Head racing.
Entries were: Singles, Doubles and a Quad.
Singles raced by : Tamsin, Mike, Andy, Olllie, Ching with Ching winning her W D 1x race.
A Special mention to Ollie as this was his first race and I hope he wasnt put off by the distance but he Sculled very steadily so a very well done to Ollie.
Doubles were raced by Anne-Marie and Andrew who won their race. Ching and Tamsin.
Our Quad comprised of a newly formed crew of Ching, Anne-Marie, Mike and Andy which went very well indeed we turned in a time which beat all with the exception of 2 J18 Crews.
This was a lovely day spent rowing at Oxford with the weather not disappointing at all .
Pairs Head of the River.
We had a few last minute alterations at this years Head Race we altered the boating Club to Barn Elms which was a little different than Thames Tradesmen but the facilities were never the less just as worn.
We boated knowing the weather was also to be an obstacle on the day with continuous rain forcast I think we were all pretty drenched by the end of the wait at the start.
All Crews raced well with good times: Gordon and Mathew 2-
(boated from Thames Tradesman), Mike and Alexander 2-,andy and Ching Mxd 2x, Mike and Gavin 2x. No winners this year but only missing out by a few seconds.
Following updating and selling of boats I can report we have now sold Our old Eight ”john benjamin” and a 2- Janousek alex Moulton.
The Rowland George has also been completely overhauled and is almost like a new boat.
We have an excellent selection of boats available at the club so please lets get using them.
Any problems with the boats please report to Andy or Ching.
